C-STEM 2-Day Academy on Integrated Computing and STEM Education

The C-STEM 2-Day Academy on integrated computing and STEM education provides teachers with hands-on experience on how to use freely available C-STEM Studio and RoboBlockly as well as C-STEM integrated curriculum with interactive computing and robotics for their classroom teaching. The academy is targeted at grades 5 – 12 and community college STEM teachers, as well as math/CTE/Science coordinators, who are interested in:

• Integrating Computing & Robotics into Math courses aligned to Common Core Standards
• Integrating Computing & Robotics into Science courses aligned to Next Generation Science Standards
• Offering computer programming and/or robotics courses in your school
• Offering robotics in after school or summer programs in your school, district, and county
• Developing students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Implementing new teaching strategies and collaborative learning
• Working to close the achievement gap
• Preparing students to be career and college ready
• Working with gifted students to challenge them to solve real-world problems
• Engaging at-risk students with hands-on learning
• Programming Lego Mindstorms NXT/EV3 using C-STEM Software

San Gabriel Valley Tech Exchange (SGVTE) meeting. SGVTE is a CETPA Regional Group serving the San Gabriel Valley foothills of Southern California between the interstate 210, 10, and 60 corridors. SGVTE meets monthly to encourage K-20 educational technology leaders to learn, collaborate, and share with each other.

2nd Annual MDUSD & EastBayCUE STEM & EdTech Symposium

The celebration is back!

Teachers and administrators will gather to learn, share, eat, collaborate, and play at our second annual STEM & EdTech Symposium. We'll kick it off with our keynote speaker, Nick Zefeldt, who will share fun STEM & EdTech ideas with us.

Valley View's Mouse Squad students will be present to guide and assist as needed, and tech support will be available. We'll have College Park students standing by to show off fun tools as well. Tesoro Foundation, part of the Tesoro Corporation, has fully funded this event as part of its focus on STEM education, and are providing a continental breakfast, lunch, some snacks, and terrific raffle prizes. Vendors will also be showing their wares, located in our STEM Playground. MDUSD's Tesoro STEM Lending Library will also be for exploration. Max, our East Bay CUE favorite student (and College Park senior) will be leading selected students through the question/answer time at lunch for those who would like to hear the students' voices and views. Did we mention raffle prizes? Did we mention that Hayoun will be helping people experience the laser cutter in the S2 Playground? Did we mention that the new College Park FIRST Robotics team just may be showing off their newly built robot before it goes to competition?

Purposes:

• To build collaboration and communication between staff members of the Mt. Diablo Unified School District and its neighboring schools/school districts in the areas of STEM and Education Technology integration.
• To provide STEM and EdTech thinking and problem-solving professional development focused for teachers, administrators and SpEd teachers.
• To introduce and share resources from and between educators and other professionals who are using them now.
• To provide professional development that is fun, with hands-on and integrated activities.
