I’m excited to share a new feature we’re working on in Chrome Warrior. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be releasing support for open badges.
Currently, Chrome Warrior allows districts to award badges when players complete sorties, missions, or levels. Our districts have created some really cool badges that show alignment of teachers’ achievements with districts’ PD goals. While a player can share their current level badge on a website or in their email the rest of their badges are only visible in Chrome Warrior. So how does this differ from open badges? With open badges, players will be able to share all of the badges they have earned.
There is more to open badges than just displaying badge on a website or within an email. In addition to the visual badge, open badges contain information about your accomplishment, such as the reason you earned the badge and who awarded it.
Suppose that you completed a number of sorties, missions, and levels that demonstrate your mastery of G-Suite. With open badges, you can easily show your badges to colleagues or prospective employers to give them a concrete understanding of your mastery. Open badges provide you with another tool to tell your story, and provide your audience a way to vet your story.
In addition to allowing players to earn open badges, our districts will have the ability to issue open badges. As an issuer, a district can tell the story of their teachers experience and skills in the broader context of the district and its community.
