Watch It, Try It, Share It: Digital Citizenship

As an online learning platform provider, we believe in the power of technology to increase educational opportunities for teachers and students alike. As access to devices and the internet both in and out of the classroom increases for children, so does the importance of digital citizenship. Digital citizenship is all about navigating our virtual world--how and what we communicate and share on social media and other websites. It combines safety practices with ethics, old-school common sense with  modern-day technology.

Common Sense is at the forefront of digital citizenship training for teachers. Their organization offers resources, workshops, online learning opportunities, and a curriculum for teaching digital citizenship. Their mission is to "work to empower students to harness technology for learning and life." Through their three sub-organizations, CS Media, CS Education, and CS Kids Action, the group not only teaches students and educators about digital citizenship, but is involved in advocating for positive policy changes for children.

Common Sense Media's upcoming webinar,"How Games Can Be a Centerpiece for Student-Driven Learning" will be hosted on May 25, 2017 at 1:00PM PDT.

Try It: Apps & Games

Trace My Shadow Teach your students about their digital footprint and data access with the Trace My Shadow tool from Me & My Shadow. "Tactical Tech's Me and My Shadow project helps you control your data traces, see how you're being tracked, and find out more about the data industry." The site also provides step-by-step instructions in how to protect your information online by adjusting privacy and browsing settings.

Digital Citizenship Unplugged: Code.org ActivityWant to explore digital citizenship with your students but don't have enough devices for every student? No problem! Code.org has created a lesson plan with everything you need to open up the conversation around safe, responsible and respectful behavior online. Check it out here.

NOVALabs: Cybersecurity Lab "Take cybersecurity into your own hands. In this Lab, you’ll defend a company that is the target of increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks.
