What is EPIC?

EPIC is a self-directed professional development approach to traditional instruction that supports teachers during their career to impact positive student outcomes. 

This program was developed by The Center for Teacher Innovation to provide learners with an alternative to traditional, in-person, or online training. EPIC is available anytime, anywhere, and allows learners to choose the most valuable path.

Course Information

Participants will engage in focused cycles of inquiries. Each inquiry will take approximately 5 weeks to complete. Participants can complete 8 inquiries per year for units. Participants will select from a collection of inquiry topics, interact with an asynchronous learning object, explore a variety of web-based curated resources, and create a plan for a change in practice. Participants will implement a change in practice, provide evidence of their implementation, and reflect on their outcomes. Participants will receive feedback and coaching on effectiveness from CTI and/or employing agency facilitators. Participants will collaborate virtually and/or face-to-face to share challenges, celebrate successes, and determine further needs and next steps.

Instructional methods

  • Access to content in web-based learning management system

Assignments

All assignments are captured in CTI’s LMS. Participants will engage in Cycles of Inquiry to implement in their teaching practice.

Teaching assignment in TK-12 setting

Internet access, Alludo account through CTI

Course Organization

Course content will be housed in Alludo, a game-based learning management system in which participants will sequentially navigate through tasks, earning completion points at their own pace within a self-determined 5 week time period.

Course Attendance / Participation 

Participants will complete all self-paced tasks equating to course completion.

Grading Policy and Grade Scale 

Grades are based on a Complete / Incomplete scale for each task. There is no reference to late or missed work as this is a self-paced course and can be completed within any 5 week period; equivalent to 20 hours.

**First-year candidates that still need to complete induction with the Center for Teacher Innovation do not qualify for EPIC PD.**
